Advisor

Mantle is a boutique consulting firm dedicated to shining the light on how climate change impacts large organizations now and in the future. From government to industry, our work educates and equips our clients with the tools to identify climate risks and strategize climate resiliency so they can make smart business decisions and seize climate-related opportunities.

As our new Advisor, you will join a significant ongoing project with one of our biggest clients including helping roll-out new, advanced low-carbon energy systems designed to be resilient and remain functional during major climate-related emergencies which could compromise the electricity grid.

Your tasks will include: 

  • Working with an inter-disciplinary project team on major client initiatives, i.e. buildings and energy systems
  • Green building certification work (LEED and zero carbon building standards)
  • Climate resilience strategy, research and consultation
  • Translating complex climate-related technical issues into clear, actionable strategies that decision makers can understand and act on

We’re looking for someone with a strong entrepreneurial drive; someone who is not afraid to take initiative on a project, figure out problems on their own, and truly own their work. In a fast-moving environment, we need people who have a deep desire to radically own their impact and embrace the freedom and responsibility that comes with it.

Working with Mantle 

This is a full-time permanent position, working Monday to Friday core business hours with flexibility. We offer a competitive starting salary of $55,000 to $70,000/year commensurate with your experience, as well as at least four weeks of vacation.

Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, environmental science, finance, or related technical field
  • Experience working or volunteering in a climate change-related role
  • Experience applying sustainability and/or climate change related standards, codes, and/or rating systems
  • Experience working in consulting or other type of client-facing role
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (formulas, functions, calendars, and formatting), and other web-based business tools (Zoom, G-Suite, Sobol, Insightly, etc.)
  • Superior communication skills, including technical writing, standards and policy writing, confidence in presentations
  • Experience working in a high-pressure, high-demand entrepreneurial environment (management consulting, engineering consulting, financial services, etc)

Senior Advisor

As our new Senior Advisor, you will immediately begin working with our largest clients across a variety of industries, with a focus on the financial sector.

Your tasks will include: 

  • Working with senior-level decision makers across private industry and all levels of government
  • Advise on major policy development, executive and board training, and climate-related financial disclosure
  • Direct climate related policy research and implementation, strategy development
  • Develop climate-related governance frameworks, risk analysis and opportunity identification, and bench-marking

  • Advanced degrees (MBA, JD, MASc, MSc, PhD) are an asset
  • CFA and/or CAIA designations are an asset
  • Experience working, volunteering, or participating at the board level in a climate change-related role
  • Experience consulting or working with boards of directors, and executive and C-suite level clients
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (formulas, functions, calendars, and formatting), and other web-based business tools (Zoom, G-Suite, Sobol, Insightly, etc.)
  • Superior communication skills, including policy development, governance frameworks, and financial reporting
  • Experience with bench-marking, risk analysis, and opportunity identification
  • Experience working in a high-pressure, high-demand roles including in the financial, legal, engineering or management consulting sector is an asset

Office Manager

As our new Office Manager, your role will be equal parts technical wizardry and team support required by an experienced administrator and organizational diligence of an effective office manager to ensure our Yorkville office is running efficiently for the benefit of the team. You’re passionate about tech, and you’re excited for the opportunity to leverage that passion in a dynamic office environment for the benefit of our team and our combined impact at addressing the climate crisis.

We’re looking for someone who’s proactive and curious; you’re always learning and looking for ways to apply that learning to make your life (and everyone else’s!) easier and more impactful. Whether that means mastering some new applications or thinking about new ways to apply what you already know, you love the practical aspects of improving processes and making an impact.

Your tasks will include: 

  • Being the primary in-office administrator and supporting our existing part-time executive assistant
  • Being radically responsible for daily office-management related activities including ensuring supplies are stocked, accepting deliveries, and welcoming visitors
  • Respond to queries by phone, email, and in person, directing queries to relevant departments and persons
  • Take and distribute meeting minutes
  • Edit/proofread a range of materials, including newsletters, presentations, etc.
  • Scan/file/retrieve documents using proven organizational strategies
  • Data entry and database management
  • Research and document review
  • Manage executive calendars, scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, etc.
  • Format documents and manage printing and collation of deliverables required in printed format
  • Continually seek out new software and processes to improve the efficiency and impact of the team

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in business administration or similar, or an equivalent amount of education and experience
  • 4+ years’ experience in an administrative role, preferably one with a significant technological component
  • Strong professional writing ability, and experience drafting a range of business documents (emails, reports, presentations, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Zoom, MS Office (Excel, Word), and advanced proficiency with PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Mac and Windows operating systems
  • Experience with design and design software, including Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, and infographic design (asset)
  • Experience maintaining the confidentiality of important documents

Nice to haves

  • Interest and or/personal investment in climate change would be an asset
  • Interest in social media/blogging would be an asset
  • Any additional tech experience (in website design, SEO, graphic design) would be an asset
  • Any experience in PR and/or marketing would be an asset
  • Experience in book-keeping including use of Quickbooks Online would be an asset
