From November 7-18, 2016, delegates from almost 200 countries gathered in Marrakech for the twenty-second session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 22), as well as the first session of the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement. Negotiators came prepared to focus on the technical details of a path forward. Over 22,500 participants in total, including government officials, industry representatives, and civil society organizations joined in the negotiations and the surrounding events.
